Upcoming edition: NEXTGEN 2025 International School & Workshop

Platform-ZERO is pleased to announce the 6th edition of the NEXTGEN (Next Generation High Efficiency Photovoltaics) International School and Workshop, once again hosted in the inspiring setting of Palma, Mallorca, from 9 to 12 September 2025 at CaixaForum Palma.

Building on the momentum of the successful 2024 edition, NEXTGEN 2025 will continue the collaboration with the RenewPV School, deepening our shared commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation in photovoltaics. This year’s edition will focus on the theme:
“Wide Band Gap PV” – exploring technologies with strong potential in emerging applications such as indoor PV for IoT, transparent PV for buildings and agrivoltaics, and high-efficiency thin-film tandems.

The programme will open with a series of Master Classes led by renowned international experts, reviewing key fundamentals and concepts central to wide band gap PV development. These will be followed by invited talks, oral and poster presentations, highlighting international research excellence and encouraging rich discussion between junior and senior researchers from both academia and industry.

Highlights from the 2024 Edition: A successful return to in-person collaboration

IREC and Platform-ZERO were delighted to host the 5th Edition of the NEXTGEN (Next Generation High Efficiency Photovoltaics) International School and Workshop, held in collaboration with the RenewPV School.

After a pause due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the event marked an exciting opportunity to reconvene, reconnect, and rekindle our shared passion for pioneering photovoltaic research.

We welcomed participants to the inspiring setting of Palma, Mallorca, Spain, from the 9th to the 12th of September 2024.

This year’s edition, held at Caixa Forum Palma, continued the tradition of excellence established by previous editions while elevating the discourse to new heights. The event reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the field of high-efficiency photovoltaics, with a strong emphasis on fostering greater interaction between academia and industry. The dialogue between young researchers, senior academics, and industry professionals was vital as we addressed the challenges and opportunities in transitioning from laboratory research to industrial-scale implementation.

NEXTGEN 2024 featured a distinguished lineup of keynote and invited speakers, showcasing the latest advancements in new and emerging materials, novel device concepts for advanced PV applications, and strategies for successfully transferring these innovations to industry for competitive PV technology development.
