The Platform-ZERO project was represented by IREC at the 15th European Kesterite+ and 3rd ReNewPV Workshop, held from 11 to 13 June 2025 at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB). The workshop brought together the international community working on kesterite-based and emerging chalcogenide thin-film photovoltaic technologies.
This three-day event provided a focused forum for in-depth scientific exchange on alternative thin-film PV materials, including kesterites and other earth-abundant chalcogenides. With more than 80 participants attending onsite, the programme featured oral sessions, poster presentations, and extensive discussions addressing both fundamental research and technological challenges in next-generation photovoltaics.
Within this framework, IREC delivered two oral presentations highlighting Platform-ZERO research activities at the intersection of advanced characterization, automation, and artificial intelligence:
- Accelerating the advanced characterization of chalcogenide thin-film photovoltaic devices through an automated platform based on artificial intelligence
- Explainable Artificial Intelligence–driven methodologies for accelerated research on kesterite-based thin-film photovoltaic technologies

These contributions showcased how AI-driven and explainable methodologies can enhance the speed, robustness, and interpretability of materials characterization and device optimization, supporting more efficient research and development pathways for sustainable photovoltaic technologies.

Beyond the technical programme, the workshop fostered a collaborative and open atmosphere, encouraging exchange across career stages and disciplines. Informal discussions during poster sessions, coffee breaks, and social events further strengthened connections within the thin-film PV community.
